The automotive media have been waking up to full inboxes from the automaker PR machine, spreading the news of positive international car sales for the December period. The story is even carried on the web version of the media giant USA Today: "Automakers took advantage of low fuel prices, rising consumer confidence and low interest rates to record what General Motors called a "blockbuster December."
The article continues: "Ford Motor was a key exception, up only 1.2% as its star, the F-series pickup, backslid in the sales charts while the factory changed tooling to build the new-design, aluminum-body 2015 F-150. For all of 2014, Ford Motor sales were down 0.5%. Even so, Ford said it enjoyed its best December sales since 2005, and reported record sales for its Escape small crossover SUV and its Fusion mid-size sedan. GM reported December sales of new vehicles jumped 19.3%, a bigger increase than expected, tugging full-years sales up 5.3% after some mediocre monthly sales reports during 2014."
