VW T-Cross continues sales success
With less than two months left of 2019, the Volkswagen brand continues with its sales success. In October, the T-Cross was Volkswagen’s third best-selling vehicle after the Polo Vivo and Polo (including Polo Sedan) which sold 2 937 and 2 620 units respectively. The T-Cross was also in the top five of the best-selling passenger vehicles in South Africa last month.
The compact SUV sold 1 132 units in October with a segment share of 20.6%, making it Volkswagen’s best-selling imported model and a fierce competitor in the competitive A0 SUV segment. October’s figures follow a strong performance by the T-Cross in September where it sold 810 units in nine days.
The T-Cross range will be bolstered with the introduction of the entry-level 70kW Trendline model which will retail for below R300 000 and the top-of-the-range 1.5 TSI 110kW model, both coming to South Africa in 2020.
In October the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand sold 7 725 units with most of the sales, 4 845, being channelled through the dealership network.
September 2019 was also a great sales month for the Volkswagen brand as it celebrated two key milestones. With a market share of 22%, the Volkswagen brand achieved its highest market share in 10 years. Volkswagen’s dealer network which is crucial to the success of the brand, recorded a 21.2% share in September 2019, the first time in 10 years that Volkswagen dealers have achieved a share greater than 21%.
