Nov 27, 2020 Energica electric super bikes, Energica Pty Ltd South Africa,
Energica the fastest, most technically advanced Superbike now available in SA – Yes, its Electric!
All you ever wanted in a Superbike - speed, torque, handling, extended riding range, quick chargers, no emissions, no shifting, no clutch, superb race components and Italian build quality.
0 to 100km/h in 2.6 secs, 215 Nm of torque, top speed standard limited to 240km/h, 4 riding modes: Urban, Eco, Wet and Sport. Electronia (Pty) Ltd South Africa, an importer and distributor of EV’s, signed an exclusive deal with Energica Motor Company S.p.A. Italy - becoming the official agent in the RSA for these popular mind-blowing Energica Electric Superbikes.
These Superbikes are designed and manufactured by Energica Motor Italy that supplies all the racing electric motorcycles for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup Series (the Electrical version of MotoGP). They are also the single company selected by Dorna due to their professionalism, expertise, experience in the industry and because of the proven performance, motorcycles speed, build and handling which no other manufacturer could rival.
So popular are these motorcycles internationally that Energica Motor outsold their total 2019 sales in the first 7 weeks of 2020. The Italian firm is one of the most established purveyors of electric motorcycles, so much so that it used the 2019 EICMA show in Milan to reveal its second-generation EGO “Sports” bike and EVA “Naked” streetfighter - while other manufacturers were still discussing how to enter the market for the first time.
Energica Motor Company is run by CEO, Livia Cevolini, a colorfully stylish Italian lady, whose grandfather worked with Enzo Ferrari. While Energica officially launched its first electric bike, the EGO, in 2014 - its parent company, the CRP Group, has been supplying the F1 teams and supercar manufacturers with rapid prototyping and advanced materials engineering services since 1970.
“With the launch of the new MY2020 range, which improves both driving range (400km in Cities) and power while reducing the weight, our motorcycles gave an answer to the market needs as shown by the order backlog”, said Cevolini. Energica motorcycles are the ultimate expression of Italian exclusivity, and now available for the discerning South African market. Energica benefits in countless and immeasurable ways from the close relationship and consultation with parent company CRP Group. The overall culture that distinguishes the CRP Group is fully integrated into Energica Motor Company.
The unique performance comes from the green heart of Energica motorcycles - it is a synchronous oil-cooled motor with internal permanent magnets (IPM). The excitement of riding an electric motorcycle is more than just power. With no transmission gears, clutch or shifting, the process of searching for the “right gear” and RPM is eliminated, allowing for full concentration on acceleration, throttle control, cornering, and braking. The technology is so intuitive and yields 215Nm of instant torque to the rider in microseconds. Energica has taken electric superbike performance to the next level!
Perfect control comes from the brain of Energica motorcycles - the sophisticated Vehicle Control Unit (VCU). Unlike other vehicles, where the control units work separately on all controllers, the Energica’s battery, inverter, charger and ABS + eABS are constantly monitored and managed by this technological jewel: the VCU is completely designed and developed by Energica.
The state-of-the-art VCU implements a multi-map adaptive energy and a power management algorithm that manages the vehicle, carefully monitoring and adjusting the motor’s power according to the throttle thrust 100 times per second while riding. The VCU interfaces with the Bosch ABS system and even control regenerative engine braking via the eABS system. This ensures the highest efficiency in energy usage and full functionality of the battery throughout the life of the vehicle, but also delivers great drive-ability and experience. The system is based on an architecture with dual redundant microprocessors to ensure the highest safety standards that constantly monitor the status of the battery, even in the key-off position.
The features do not end there as the new Energica motorcycles are equipped with Park Assist to facilitate parking and maneuvers on slopes or in rush hour traffic. The VCU limits both the speed and the torque of the vehicle to accommodate safe traversing. The Park Assist button is toggled for reverse and forward mode with maximum speed of 4km per hour and maximum torque of 50Nm. The Dashboard layout is nothing short of stunning, the TFT full-color LCD unit with 16.7 million display colors, has excellent visibility and the active matrix dashboard creates a real Human Machine Interface for the motorcycles. This technology also allows great flexibility, supporting the flow of information and interactivity. The unit is a technically advanced Cobo 4.3” WQYGA 480 x 272 TFT colour display, integrated GPS receiver and Bluetooth communication with 9 warning lights, 6+6 current consumption lights, an Ambient light sensor, Real time clock and GPS 10Hz - allowing you to view the closest charging stations when connected to MY-Energica App. A Bluetooth low energy and long-range system is also available.
There are currently 3 Energica models available, of these extra extraordinary Superbikes: the Energica EGO+RS, the EVA RIBELLE RS, and the EVA ESSEESSE9+RS. All of them are fitted with the most advanced components available today (also fitted to their MotoE race machines), plus the latest Marzocchi adjustable rebound and compression damping, spring preload front suspension and the rear include the Bitubo mono shock, adjustable rebound and spring loaded (upgradable to Ohlins). The brakes are Brembo, double floating, 4 piston radial caliper on the front and single 2 piston on the rear. The ABS is Bosch Switchable, the batteries have a maximum capacity of 21.5 kWh /nominal capacity 18.9 kWh, lithium polymer, with 1200 life cycles @ 80% capacity (100% DOD) Fast charge (DCFC Mode 4) 400km/h or 6,7 km/min. Slow charge (Mode 2 or 3) 63,5 km/h.
The power kW/Hp maximum continuous power is 80Kw/109Hp at 6000 rpm for the EVA ESSEESE9+RS and 107kW/145Hp at 6000 rpm for the EVA RIBELLE RS and EGO+RS. The Torque differs for each model 200Nm/148 ft lb, for the EVA + RS and 215Nm/159 ft lb for the EGO+ and EVA Ribelle RS. The top speed is electronically limited to 200km on the two EVA’s and 240km on the EGO+RS. The uncanny acceleration will beat anything out there running at 0 to 100km/h in just 2.6 secs. All the models are fitted with a sophisticated cruise control system that uses the electronic brake to maintain speed and increase braking energy. There are 6 levels of intervention combined with the existing eABS and the Bosch ABS. It also includes four riding modes: Urban, Eco, Wet and Sport, plus 4 regenerative modes: High, Medium, Low and Off.
