Thursday the 25th of August saw Aftermarket Solutions host their Supplier awards evening. A.S. CEO Warren Espinoza discussed the latest series of issues facing SA and our economy in particular. He lamented how difficult the current roller-coaster economic climate makes doing business difficult, but drove the point home that the key to succeeding in these tough times is to nurture and protect the relationships that build brands optimally. He did however detail a number of positive developments in that they "new" system is finally online and has been working toward clearing the backlog that the upgrade caused. NAPA experienced continued growth and, even without appointing new members, achieved a new record month in May. "Retail has also been growing and, even though trading is depressed, AS are comfortable with the performance. I do feel that the year has been a success strategically” he concluded in his introduction. The evening’s guest speaker was Max Du Preez, who gave a roundup and analysis of our current political shambles, in particular surrounding the developments around our treasury, but highlighted some important optimistic notes. "The local government elections showed that as a society we have the ability to rectify a worsening situation. We have resilience and we have a culture of making a plan” he said. His opinion is that if the broader context of our constitutional democracy are considered, and when compared to events in Ukraine, Brazil and very recently in Turkey, the chances of us becoming a failed state are not very high – populist politics aside. He continued to say “I believe that the results of these elections brought in a new realism that has been missing since 1994. All the "socialist" Range Rover drivers and nationalism supporters had to sit up and take note". His message was that the recipe for the prevention of state failure is based on our open society, and the most precious of commodities: stability. The evening wound up with a presentation of the supplier awards in the following categories:Special award for service excellence:Tilly Oosthuizen from Robert Bosch
