Ashok Leyland launches Phoenix - the ideal business partner
Ashok Leyland recently introduced the Phoenix – a versatile three-seater workhorse ideal to do some heavy lifting in the South African market. With a load body length of 2950mm and a load carrying capacity pf 1,180kgs, the Phoenix is designed for small business owners, last-mile deliveries and flexible fleet needs across all sectors.
The Phoenix is powered by a 3 cylinder 1,5l Turbo-charged common rail diesel engine, generating 59kW # 3300RPM and 190Nm @ between 1600-2400RPM, via a fully synchronized manual gearbox. Servicing intervals are set at 1-Year / 15,000km.
The Phoenix comfortably seats a driver and two passengers and is equipped with power steering. Running on 215/75 R15 tyres, it’s low turning radius and dash-mounted gearshift and controls ensure the Phoenix is easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces whether it’s navigating inner city deliveries, construction sites or narrow farm roads.
The Phoenix’s load carrying capacity of 1,180kg and sturdy load deck make it a serious workhorse, but one that can be driven with a standard local EC1 driver’s license.

The initial model line-up for Southern Africa focuses on the class-leading 1,25-ton carrying capacity Dost pick-up, followed by the 4,5-ton Partner light truck and the 1,86-ton carrying capacity Phoenix pick-up. early in 2024.
