Auto Expedi8 Group trains female technicians
Female partner-owned Bosch car service centre group, Auto Expedi8, operating in the across six branches, is training female technicians, two of which will become the world’s first female Bosch Master Technicians. The group has been operating for 18 years and employs women across technical and administrative roles. Jenene Cronning, Managing Director of Auto Expedi8, confirmed the group’s commitment to increasing opportunities for women in technical roles, highlighted by the achievements of its trainee and qualified female technicians.
The Bosch Master Technician programme specialises in diagnosis, repair and vehicle maintenance and provides comprehensive training in key areas such as vehicle diagnostics, electronic systems, engine management, and advanced automotive technologies. Technicians are equipped with knowledge to work on the latest vehicle models, keeping up to date with current with industry advancements and emerging technologies.
The training emphasises modern automotive systems, including driver assistance systems and high-voltage components, preparing technicians to handle complex repairs with precision. “The certification is internationally recognised with training aimed at improving workshop efficiency, reducing customer wait times, and enhancing overall service quality. With expertise spanning petrol, diesel, electronics, brakes, and electric vehicle systems, Bosch Master Technicians are highly qualified to meet the evolving demands of the global automotive industry,” said Cronning.
Female employees at Auto Expedi8 include Zipho Sihiya, a qualified mechanic, Robin Khosa, an apprentice mechanic, and Stephanie Cronning, an apprentice and also a master technician trainee, the highest international technical certification offered by Bosch. Cronning said the company’s employees all receive mechanical training, with some advancing their skills to take on customer-facing advisory roles. “The development marks a shift in the ownership structure of our service centre group while increasing the number of women in technical and advisory roles across the six branches,” Cronning added.
She explained that the group follows a structured recruitment and training process for apprentices. Applicants must meet specific educational requirements, demonstrate mechanical aptitude, and pass the official Bosch workshop test before being accepted into the programme. According to Cronning, the company aims to create long-term career opportunities. Being a qualified automotive technician remains a scarce skill in South Africa.
Staff members also have access to international training through Bosch’s global curriculum, with selected individuals being eligible for overseas development programmes. Cronning indicated that these international opportunities allow employees to remain current with advancements in vehicle servicing technology. “The branches are equipped with modern diagnostic equipment and operate in accordance with Bosch’s international service standards. The company recently received a 100% rating in its most recent audit from Robert Bosch head office in Germany across all its branches,” Cronning added.
“The audit assessed a range of criteria, including compliance with Bosch’s global operating standards, the use of genuine Bosch parts, customer service quality, technical expertise, and environmental and safety regulations. The audit also evaluated staff training programmes, ensuring that employees across all branches meet the required technical and operational benchmarks.
Cronning emphasised the importance of maintaining quality standards across all service centers. The company uses genuine Bosch and OE-approved parts, including oil filters, spark plugs, alternators, brake discs and pads, and air conditioning components. “Auto Expedi8’s combination of technical expertise, investment in staff development, and compliance with international service standards positions it as a service provider offering consistent quality across all locations,” concluded Cronning.
