Enviro Automotive delivers first DFSK EV Panel Vans to Barberton Mines
Barberton Mines has received its first battery-electric DFSK EC35 panel vans. These best-selling electric panel vans from China are commended for their efficient energy use, performance and affordability. The Chinese automaker DFSK (Dongfeng Sokon Automobile) is a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Company and the Chongqing Sokon Industry Group. Following the successful introduction of its popular C-Series range of delivery bakkies and panel vans in 2009, the company extended the range by introducing a battery-electric EC35 panel van and EC31 bakkie in 2018.
Enviro Automotive began importing DFSK's battery-electric vehicles in 2022, starting with the EC35 EV panel vans and EC31 EV 1-tonne bakkies. Earlier this year, it expanded its DFSK range by introducing the EC35 EV four-seater derivative, which quickly gained popularity among labour-intensive businesses needing larger team seating configurations.
"Our EC35 EV four-seater panel vans are perfect for transporting people and work crews at Baberton Mines. With its solar electricity plant, the mine can save over 50% in fuel/energy costs by recharging EVs from its own sustainable green resource," says Gawie Brink, Technical Director at Enviro Automotive.
The EC35 EV's dimensions are 4,500 mm (L) x 1,680 mm (W) and 1,985 mm (H). Its wheelbase is 2,910 mm and offers a payload of 950 kg. The EC35 EV four-seater cargo area's dimensions are 2,530 mm (L) x 1,440 mm (W) x 1,270 mm (H), with its cargo space measuring 3.1 m³, just 1.7 m³ less than the two-seater's 4.8 m³. The practical load compartment of the EC35 EV is accessible via sliding doors on both sides and the tailgate, making loading and offloading easy.
The EC35 EV features a single synchronous electric motor that produces 60 kW and 200 Nm of torque. It features a 38.7 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery. With a DC fast charger, the battery could be charged from zero to 80 percent in less than an hour, yielding a travel distance of up to 270 kilometres, depending on load and traffic conditions. The EC35 EV features ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and Electric Power Steering (EPS). It also boasts a selection of modern-day driver comforts, including air-conditioning, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth, and a touchscreen Infotainment system.
"Our DFSK EV range is an ideal fit for Barberton Mines, as both companies prioritise renewable energy, sustainable environmental practices, and minimising carbon footprints while demonstrating innovative leadership in the commitment to a greener future," adds Brink. The first four EC35 EVs were delivered to Barberton Mines on 1 October during a handover ceremony at the Fairview operation. These units will be available to transport patients to the clinic when required and will mainly support the mine's environmental, electrical, and training departments.
"Our battery-electric workhorses are reliable and of exceptional quality. With operating costs of just 25 cents per kilometre and low service and maintenance expenses, they are the perfect addition to any modern transport fleet, reducing environmental impact while ensuring efficiency," says Gideon Wolvaardt, Managing Director of Enviro Automotive.
