Accusations of playing to the gallery were being murmured from the outset, but to give the man some credit, one would have thought this would have been more a part of electioneering if that were the case. Could it be that government is finally willing to listen to the will of the voters? We live in eternal hope!
The question of how to pay for ever growing debt incurred in the ridiculous scheme however, still remains. The devil is always in the detail. Whatever government commits to – its still taxpayer money, so beeps-and-gantries or shaving it off somewhere else, we will still be footing the bill. And what of those who did actually pay, and all those threats of legal action? And who is ever going to be held to account is this saga?
We are waiting on a formal statement from Outa, the organization who have truly championed the cause of the motorist on this quest to wave goodbye to e-tolls. Watch this space.
