Nov 25, 2024 Historically Disadvantaged Individuals Aftermarket Automotive Associations Forum (HDI AAAF), Sello Mosai
HDI AAAF statement
The Historically Disadvantaged Individuals Aftermarket Automotive Associations Forum (HDI AAAF) wishes to address recent false statements made on SAFM’s The View Point aired on October 8, 2024. The interview featured WesBank’s CEO of Fleet Management & Leasing, Mr. Michael Naidoo, and Mr. Sisa Mbangxa of the African Panelbeaters Beaters & Motor Mechanics Association (APBMA).
During the broadcast, it was inaccurately stated that HDI AAAF is disbanded and that Sello Mosai is not the Chairperson of the organisation. This misinformation was weighed against a previous #TakeoverTuesday feature on the same program where Mosai, alongside Insurance Consultant Tsehlo Leeto and auto repair merchant Njabulo Ngubeni, discussed challenges faced by black-owned workshops due to the RT46 tender's administration, handled by Wesbank.
It is concerning to note that the current discourse by Wesbank and its cohorts is targeting Mosai personally, questioning his legitimacy as a leader within the HDI AAAF. Such assertions undermine the cohesive efforts of an organisation that has not only sustained but thrived through the collective representation of the Federation of Automotive Aftermarket Associations (FAAA), Independent Auto Repairers (IAR), The Auto Network (AN), and the Towing & Panel Beating Association of South Africa (T&PASA)).
The HDI AAAF is a Non-Profit Organisation legally registered in terms of the Nonprofit Organisation Act, 1997 with the registration number 312 – 816 NPO. The organisation exists in its own right authorised to determine its internal arrangements such as who the office bearers are to pursue the objectives set out in its constitution.
Mosai, Chairperson of the HDI AAAF, asserts the fundamental right of freedom of expression in response to the misleading statements: "Every South African has the right to freedom of expression, and when over 160,000 jobs are under threat due to poor administration by Wesbank of the RT46 tender, it is our duty at HDI AAAF to voice these concerns. Contrary to Mbangxa's conflicting statements during his interview, the HDI AAAF exists legally, and I remain the Chairperson. It is disheartening to witness such contradictions and factually incorrect assertions, which only aim to divert attention from the critical issues affecting our community."
HDI AAAF has built a legacy through steadfast representation and the advocacy of historically disadvantaged individuals within the automotive aftermarket sector. It is vital for organizations and stakeholders to remain aligned in promoting transparency and equity within this industry.
Responding to the contentious issues raised, Wesbank has engaged in public discourse following our recent media campaign aiming to highlight systemic shortcomings related to the RT46 tender. We welcome continued dialogue to ensure fair practices that support and sustain black-owned automotive enterprises.
As HDI AAAF, we are resolute in our commitment to advocate for Transformation as well as equitable treatment and the rights of historically disadvantaged individuals owning businesses in the industry. This requires an honest conversation, and we encourage all involved parties to engage with the real issues in a constructive and truthful manner going forward.
