ISUZU fuel economy challenge
Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSA), in partnership with Engen SA, recently showcased the fuel-efficient and cost-saving capabilities of its D-MAX 1.9 Dti vehicle in a One Tank Challenge.
The One Tank Challenge trip started at Isuzu’s Midrand offices and included pit stops at Engen ! Stop Shops in Bloemfontein, Colesberg and Laingsburg on the way to Cape Town. The challenge teams involved a mix of 10 motoring journalists and influencers with four of the pairs reaching the Cape Town Engen Winelands One Stop. Three teams completed the full distance of 1,452 km’s without needing to refill.
The fuel consumption averaged 5,58 litres per 100 km’s travelled achieving an average of 17.93 km/l. The vehicles were prepared according to Isuzu SA’s specifications with Grant McCleery, Head of the Isuzu Driving Academy, ensuring that the fuel and oil types were checked and at the right levels. The vehicles had no modifications, and the tanks were sealed under independent adjudication. In addition, the wheel balancing and alignment were checked to ensure they were within the recommended specs.
The primary goal of the Isuzu One Tank Challenge was to showcase the efficiency and utility of the D-MAX bakkie. However, the challenge also provided an opportunity to share driving tips with the drivers, equipping them with the skills to get the best performance and value from their vehicles.
Kevin Fouche, Product Planning & Programme Management department executive, at IMSA, summed the purpose of the challenge as, “From a broader perspective, the underlying message here is that in our product range we have something that caters to all customer needs. For the potential customer looking for a reliable, trusted vehicle, easy on the pocket and including overall comfort – we have D-MAX options available.”
