MIA becomes official distributor for AI Power Technology Co. In Southern Africa
Market Intelligence Agency (MIA) announces its official appointment as the exclusive distributor and licensed service provider of AI Power Technology Co., an innovative Asia-based company specialising in cutting-edge electric vehicle charging (EVC) technologies powered by artificial intelligence. This partnership was finalised in May 2025, following nearly a year of strategic engagement between both companies.
AI Power Technology Co. ris ecognized in global markets through its high-performance, reliable, and scalable EVC solutions. The company’s product portfolio includes a wide variety of AC and DC charging stations that serve both commercial and industrial applications. These chargers are compatible with global connector standards such as Type 1 (SAE J1772), Type 2 (IEC 62196-2), and DC fast-charging connectors including CCS Combo 1 and Combo 2. AI Power’s technology allows for the rapid charging of electric vehicles while offering energy-efficient, smart grid-compatible features designed to optimise usage across diverse operating environments.
Under the terms of this partnership MIA will lead the distribution and service delivery of these solutions not only in South Africa but also across key Southern African Development Community (SADC) regions. These include Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, and Mozambique, with South Africa set to host the first commercial rollout.
Through MIA’s Energy IQ Division, the agency is taking a bold step into the green mobility and smart infrastructure space. Energy IQ will be responsible for overseeing the rollout of the EVC infrastructure, providing technical support, and facilitating industry readiness across private and public sectors. This includes working with stakeholders in retail, logistics, fleet management, mining, commercial real estate, and renewable energy sectors to help them integrate electric vehicle charging stations into their operations.
This collaboration aligns with South Africa’s Just Energy Transition (JET) framework and supports:
• Job creation in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.
• Skills development in green technology and AI-driven energy systems.
• Reduced carbon emissions by accelerating EV adoption in transport and logistics.
A landmark feature of this strategic move is the development of South Africa’s first electric vehicle charger and lithium battery manufacturing plant, a project estimated at R1.5 billion. This facility, currently in the planning stages, will position the country as a significant player in the global EV supply chain. The project will be led by Dr. Kelvin Kemm, one of South Africa’s most esteemed nuclear physicists and a prominent voice in the field of nuclear and renewable energy development. The plant aims to localise the production of both EV chargers and lithium-ion batteries, contributing to job creation, skills development, and technology transfer in the local economy.
Commenting on the announcement, Desiree Ntshingila, CEO of Market Intelligence Agency, said: “This partnership marks a defining moment for both our organisation and the wider region. We are entering an exciting phase of growth and innovation as we do what we do best, helping companies with industry-disrupting products and services successfully enter and expand in new markets. Since beginning our relationship with AI Power in November 2024, we’ve been impressed by the depth of their innovation and the alignment of our strategic goals. Finalising this agreement has opened the door for a new era in EVC technology on the continent.” She continued: “Through this collaboration, we are not only enabling South African companies to install their own private EVC infrastructure, but also creating opportunities for retailers and property developers to offer public charging solutions to their consumers. This is especially important as the country accelerates its transition to clean energy and electric mobility. Our rollout will contribute meaningfully to the country’s broader sustainability objectives and to the economic integration of Southern Africa through clean technology.”
Market Intelligence Agency invites corporate clients, municipalities, investors, and policy makers to engage with its Energy IQ Division to explore collaboration on EVC infrastructure development, fleet electrification, and clean energy transition planning.
