MISA and AutoZone to consult about affected employees
MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, will consult with AutoZone and its Business Rescue Practitioner on alternatives to mitigate the numbers of employees who might face retrenchment.
Martlé Keyter, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations, says this comes after the Business Rescue Plan was approved by AutoZone’s Creditors at a special meeting held 11 September 2024. According to the plan, nine AutoZone branches face closure, affecting 11 MISA members.
“The process to be followed is set out in article 189 of the Labour Relations Act. The parties must consider all possibilities to minimise retrenchments, which includes, temporary lay-offs, short time and transfers to mention a few,” says Keyter.
MISA’s Legal Department will continue to participate in the process to protect the interest of our members and to keep them informed of any developments. Members of the Union can contact MISA on 011 476 3920, WhatsApp and SMS on 071 880 9682 or e-mail mailto:legal@ms.org.za.
