MISA message
#MISA’s thoughts and prayers are with victims of the Johannesburg building fire and their loved ones. Words cannot describe the pain of the survivors and the families of the victims of the rundown five-story building in Johannesburg that was engulfed by a fire in the early hours of this morning.
“It is devastating to follow this unfolding story as our brave firefighters and emergency teams continue to work through the building in search of more victims. It is confirmed that at least 73 homeless people, the youngest a 1-year-old, died and more than 53 people have sustained injuries.
“MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, would like to extend the Union’s sincerest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones in this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone working to help either at the building or at our hospitals,” says Martlé Keyter, #MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations.
Investigations are underway as to the cause of the fire at the building that is leased by the City of Johannesburg to a non-profit organisation.
#MISA represents more than 61 000 members in the retail motor industry.
