MISA Woman Of The Year event: Flying high, upping the ante
The Motor Industry Staff Association, the largest trade union in the retail motor industry, celebrated its annual Woman of the Year (WOTY) Award at a prestigious event held at Avianto Convention Centre on Wednesday evening 13 November.
Held annually, the WOTY Award is the culmination of a year-long process of selection of female members of the Association who have distinguished themselves as caring ladies who are passionate about their local communities and are not afraid to get their hands dirty in getting involved in acts of people development, charity and the upliftment of those who need support, mentorship and material assistance in the areas they are situated.
The commendable WOTY Programme has been driven by MISA since the early 2000’s and has resulted in many meaningful and permanent benefits in all regions of South Africa. Ladies who are involved in their communities in many different ways have testified that the passion they share for helping those in need has not only been a rewarding experience for the communities they serve, but has benefitted them in terms of their own personal growth and sensitivity towards those in need of their care, love and involvement.
The 2025 MISA WOTY Award upped the ante again in terms of elegance and style at the Awards Dinner held at the top-flight Avianto Conference venue in Mulfdersdrift, west of Johannesburg, with over 200 guests in attendance.
The 5 WOTY finalists who were presented at the Award were, in no particular order:
• Gwen Truter, Western Cape Region
• Megan Constance, Eastern Cape Region
• Candice de Beer, Free Sate /Northern Cape Region
• Sharon Ramiah-Akkiah, KwaZulu Natal Region
• Simangele Mtetwa, Northern/Highveld Region
Top Honours went to Candice de Beer, who was awarded the title of MISA Woman of the Year for 2025, the first ever finalist from the Free State/Northern Cape Region upon whom this honour was bestowed. Candice will be part of the MISA delegation who will attend the 2026 Conference of the US National Automobile Dealers’ Association’s 2026 NADA Show and Conference that will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada in early February 2026.
We applaud all the finalists and congratulate Candice on receiving this prestigious award and wish her every success in the continuation of the valuable work she is doing on her Region going forward.
