MISA's Martlé Keyter wants MIBCO to develop to full potential

Martlé Keyter, MISA's Chief Executive Officer: Operations, and newly elected President of the Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO), is optimistic that MIBCO will tackle many of the challenges in the industry during 2023.

Keyter was elected as President of MIBCO on 11 November 2022 after Karen Műller, the former MIBCO President, resigned. “MIBCO plays a vital role, but there is room for improvement. I will strive to ensure that all the parties represented in MIBCO remains on track to tackle and resolve challenges in the best interest of their members and the industry we serve,” says Keyter.

Keyter is a seasoned unionist who has been working in the MISA structures since 1994. In 2013 she took up the position of MISA’s CEO: Operations, steering the Union to new heights with her colleague, Hermann Köstens, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Strategy and Development. Keyter wears many hats. She is the Deputy President of FEDUSA and serves on the Board of MIRF (Motor Industry Retirement Fund) and the UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund).

Last year proved to be a turbulent year for MIBCO. MIBCO’s mission is to create and maintain industrial peace and stability in this Industry. It provides services to over 20 000 Employers and over 300 000 Employees throughout South Africa. It consists of representatives from both Employers’ and Employees’ Organisations and has equal representation from both groups.

The Agreements negotiated by the Council are, where necessary, extended by the State to cover the entire Industry once satisfied that the Parties to the Council are in the majority. It is for this reason that all Employers and Employees falling within the Motor Industry fall under MIBCO’s jurisdiction.

As Bargaining Councils are not funded by the State, all Employers and their Employees pay a levy for the funding of the Council.
