Iveco yesterday launched its New 682 heavy duty truck range during the Nampo agricultural show in the Free State.
The new range features product improvements and developments "specifically designed to suit tough Southern African countries conditions and terrains", and according to Iveco, inspired by the best of European design with several common features of the Iveco European-produced ranges. Assembled at the Rosslyn plant, the line will be available for both the SACU market and most Right Hand Drive Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.Christophe Longuet, Marketing Manager at Iveco South Africa commented: “Engineered to the highest technical specifications entirely by Iveco, the New 682 maintains the optimal balance between cost efficiency and strength. Feature enhancements mean additional comfort, less weight and higher payload - ideally suited for any extreme mission into Africa.”The New 682 is powered by Iveco Cursor 9 and Cursor 13 engines, which the truck maker says will set "a new standard of reliability and performance". The engines will be equipped with the latest generation common rail fuel injection system, generate maximum torque availability in a wide operative range starting from a very low rpm rate (1000 rpm), delivering optimum elasticity and top driving performance in any condition.
The range is offered in 4X2 and 6X4 versions, with a driveline equipped with two different types of rear axles: Hub reduction and Single reduction. The brand continues that the wide choice of rear axle ratios enables the New 682 to match the market demand for strong traction, high speed, heavy loads and low fuel consumption. "The gearboxes available on the New 682 are all about ergonomics and performance: it can be equipped with 9 or 12 speed mechanical gearbox depending on the versions and torque required." Longuet adds: “Iveco’s reputation for ruggedness and reliability remains unmatched in this category. Backed by our well known and trust-worthy network, the New 682 sets the bar in terms of cost effectiveness, reliability and quality.” The company plans to double sales of the New 682 in the region within two years. Backed by a professional network, skilled technicians in Iveco workshops maintain the vehicle’s levels of performance with 100% Iveco parts, the original spare parts service based on the rigorous selection of materials and suppliers.
