Porsche has made the bold move of announcing it will no longer produce diesel models. The automaker's chief executive, Oliver Blume, says the change follows its parent company's emissions scandal over the last few years.
Speaking to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Blume said that although Porsche has not developed or produced diesel engines, the scandal that broke in 2015 had tarnished its reputation. Blume added that his company would concentrate on "what we can do particularly well", citing high-performance petrol models, hybrids and electric cars, which will start in 2019.
Porsche informed German regulators in February that it had discovered some "irregularities" in its emissions-testing data, and later the company's head of powertrain development, Jeorg Kerner, was arrested for his role in the VW emissions scandal. In may, the Macan and Cayenne models were recalled thanks to higher nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions than permitted.
