Pasdec Automotive Technologies, the manufacturer of electrical wiring harnesses for Volkswagen Polo, was one of the 26 suppliers that were recently honoured as Volkswagen Group’s best suppliers in 2015.
The 2015 Volkswagen Group supplier awards took place in Neuburg near Ingolstadt, Germany and were presented by Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, and Dr. Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Procurement.
"To make really good cars, you need really good partners – and we certainly have them," said Prof. Dr.Winterkorn. Looking to the future, he added: "Over the next few years, almost every aspect of the automobile industry will change. In the age of digitalisation, we need to maintain our existing strengths and to develop new strengths. We will be working on this with our suppliers in a major new innovation partnership."
This year was the 13th time that the Volkswagen Group was honouring the entrepreneurial performance of its best suppliers with the Volkswagen Group Award. The award-winners are distinguished by their innovative power, product quality, development competence, sustainability and professional project management.
Kevin Pather, Managing Director of Pasdec Automotive Technologies, said: “The importance of this award cannot be overstated. The progress we have made since the beginning of the project illustrates how the collaboration between Pasdec and Volkswagen has resulted in a burgeoning partnership that bodes well for the future.”
Pather added: “A vital component of our partnership has been the phenomenal support that we have received from Volkswagen. The input from company has greatly enhanced our capabilities and processes. An important outcome has been the potential for substantial capital investment in equipment and technology.”
“We are proud that one of our suppliers was amongst the 26 international companies to be honoured at the 2015 Volkswagen Group awards. The award is the testimony of our commitment together with our suppliers in ensuring that the Uitenhage factory builds world class cars for our local and international customers,” said Thomas Schaefer, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group South Africa.
Pasdec Automotive Technologies started manufacturing and supplying electrical wiring harnesses for the Polo models produced at the Volkswagen factory in Uitenhage in October 2012. The company is based in Brits, North West and employs 550 people in three sites.
Pasdec Automotive Technologies is the second South African company to be honoured with the Volkswagen Group Award. The Port Elizabeth-based Principle Plastics was the first supplier to receive the award in 2013.
Volkswagen Group South Africa and its suppliers have contributed over R1.7 billion in the development of the local parts content.
