Serco expands product range with walking floor trailer
Serco has successfully designed and manufactured its first walking floor trailer, developed specifically for a leading waste removal company. The innovative trailer enhances bulk waste handling efficiency with its advanced moving floor system, eliminating the need for tipping during unloading.
The 15.4m trailer is loaded through an open-top design, secured with a roll-over tarpaulin to ensure safe and contained transportation. What sets this trailer apart is its unique upper structure, built using high-strength composite facings with a reinforced core. This provides a light weight, high strength yet cost-effective alternative to the traditionally imported aluminium extrusions used in similar trailers.
Walking floor trailers operate using a hydraulically-driven aluminium plank flooring system, which "walks" bulk waste out of the trailer in a controlled manner. This feature makes it an ideal solution for transporting a wide range of materials, including treated waste, recyclables, wood chips and agricultural waste. Walking floors are also suitable for transporting pallets and other loads that would normally be loaded or unloaded using a forklift. This versatile and efficient unloading system makes walking floor trailers a one-stop transport solution for waste management companies handling bulk materials. Additionally, the automated unloading process allows truck drivers to offload large amounts at the touch of a button, significantly improving turnaround times.
The customer, a leader in waste management, has incorporated this new walking floor trailer into its fleet, complementing its existing short haul truck bodies and expanding its bulk waste transport capabilities. Said Serco CEO Clinton Holcroft:"The new walking floor trailer is a part of our diversification strategy, allowing us to broaden our product range and bring innovative solutions to a wider market. By engineering smarter, cost-effective alternatives, we continue to support our customers with the most efficient and high-quality transport solutions available."
Serco’s head office is in Durban, with branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Gqeberha.
