Shell launches its Easter Safe and Healthy Driving Awareness Campaign
Shell launches its Easter Safe and Healthy Driving Awareness Campaign in an effort to bring awareness, and also encouraging all drivers to make a stop at participating Shell Ultra Cities.
Driver wellness and safety has become a big concern on South Africa's roads - especially for truck drivers who spend all their working time on the road, ensuring our country's goods are delivered timely and our economy stays running. With an estimated 800 000 road crashes on South Africa's roads every year, road users have emerged as the leading cause of accidents, according to the recently published inaugural Webfleet Road Safety Report.
Ahead of the Easter weekend, our roads carry more traffic than usual as holiday makers travel to destinations across the country. This trend increases the potential risks of road accidents.
"As part of our efforts to Powering Mzanzi Drivers on the roads, Shell launched its Easter Safe and Healthy Driving Awareness Campaign in 2022 in recognition of truck drivers who cannot spend holidays with their families because they need to keep our country running. We urge drivers to take care of themselves by getting an adequate amount of rest, hydration and food to stay refreshed and alert," says Hloniphizwe Mtolo, Shell Downstream South Africa, Country Chair.
In 2023, Shell invites all drivers to make a "Wellness Pit Stop" at participating Shell Truck Stops and Shell Ultra Cities from 5 to 6 April. Drivers will receive a wellness kit, providing an opportunity to undergo a free health test in partnership with Old Mutual, and receive rest and stretch techniques from Virgin Active members. "We understand the importance of a healthy workforce and how truck drivers fuel our economy. Join us to help take care of all your drivers' well-being." concludes Mtolo.
